Meet Amy Mathew

Amy Mathew

registered dietitian

I’m so glad you’re here! I am excited for the opportunity to join you in your journey towards peace with food and your body.

I am a Registered Dietitian who believes food is so much more than nourishment. Food is love, fun, and so deeply intertwined with family, culture, and life. It is my goal to help you get back in touch with these aspects of eating and food. I believe that every body deserves love and respect, and every body deserves to enjoy eating without guilt or shame. Living in a world where diet culture and nutrition myths are so rampant can be difficult for anyone, and I am here to help you navigate through these challenges so you can get back to living your best and happiest life.

My counseling style is gentle and non-judgemental. I use an anti-diet, Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size (HAES) informed approach, which focuses on getting back in touch with and trusting your body’s internal cues as well as respecting and embracing the diversity of all body sizes and shapes. I approach nutrition from a holistic perspective, taking into account an individual’s unique past lived experiences, culture, and values.

I am licensed in the state of Texas with a Masters of Science in Community Nutrition from West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania. I have been a dietitian since 2015 and have extensive experience in outpatient nutrition counseling working with individuals with a variety of medical conditions. I also have experience working at the Eating Recovery Center with individuals receiving treatment for eating disorders at the inpatient, residential, and partial hospitalization (PHP) levels of care.

I enjoy working with adults and older adolescents with disordered eating and food challenges, those with eating disorders and co-occurring chronic medical conditions, and those with a history of chronic dieting.

Let’s work together!

I cannot wait to walk alongside you as you take these next steps in healing your relationship with food and your body!

fun facts!

  1. I am a transplant from the northeast (born and raised in upstate New York and completed my education in Pennsylvania). These Texas summers are something else!
  2. I love to experiment with new recipes in the kitchen and to explore different cuisines. On the weekends you will find my husband and I visiting the newest soup dumpling joint!
  3. I am a dog mom and a human mom of a squishy, adorable baby boy.
  4. I love the outdoors and hiking is a huge passion of mine. The bigger the scenic overlook, the better!

Dieting is a life suck, oftentimes without us know Dieting is a life suck, oftentimes without us knowing it's even happening. Have you ever thought about ways that dieting or disordered eating has affected your life beyond just food?
.
If you feel open to exploring this further, here are some questions that may be helpful:
👉 How does your relationship with food impact your decision about going out with friends for a fun night out?
👉 Do you ever find yourself choosing not to spend time with people you care about because you're not comfortable with the food options (or you don't know what they are in advance)?
👉 How much time do you spend each day calculating calories or macros in order to plan out what you are "allowed" to eat that day? How might this affect your life? Or the lives of those around you (partner, kids, friends, etc.)?
👉 If you were able to get that time back, what would you do with it? Would you spend it the same way?
👉 Does how you feel about your body ever change from day-to-day or even multiple times a day? If so, why might this be?
👉 Is it possible that you may still not be content or fulfilled in a smaller body? Have you ever met a person in a smaller body who wasn't satisfied with their body?
👉 When you are 100 years old on your death bed, what experiences, relationships, or adventures would bring you a sense of peace, fulfillment, joy, & meaning? What are the things that would make you able to say in that moment, "I couldn't have asked for more...it was everything I hoped it would be"?
.
Dieting & disordered eating robs you of so much more than just "missing out on foods" you enjoy. ⛔
.
Instead, disordered eating steals your sense of agency; robs you of precious time with those you love that you can never get back; leaves you feeling like a "failure"; tells you the lie that your health is largely determined by your body size and what you eat; convinces you that you cannot be enough unless you take up less space. Dieting may not end up making your body smaller, but it will make your life MUCH smaller😢.
