Our hearts are broken after the mass shooting in A Our hearts are broken after the mass shooting in Allen, TX this weekend. 💔
.
.
For those who aren't from the DFW area, Allen is about 30-40 minutes north of our Dallas office. Amy actually worked at a little store at the outlet mall years ago, and many of our dietitians currently live, have lived, or have family/friends near Allen.
.
.
With every new instance of a mass shooting in the US, our hearts grow heavier. I (Amy) admit that this hits profoundly harder happening in our own backyard. It's hard to really download what has happened, nonetheless process it all.
.
.
We are holding so much space for those grieving, hurting, angry, afraid, and traumatized by what unfolded in Allen this weekend. We invite you to take this time grieve and begin processing and healing from this tragedy, and we encourage you to hold space and self-compassion as you try to process what has happened in our community.
.
.
There are so many wonderful local mental health providers in our community who are ready to help those who need it. We also encourage you to call or text "988" if you are in need of emotional support or are in crisis.
.
.
Sending you all so much love and comfort as we try to begin healing. If you feel led to, please reach out to your local representatives and let them know you demand action on putting a stop to gun violence in this country. Enough is enough.

Our bodies can do so many ✨amazing✨ things, bu Our bodies can do so many ✨amazing✨ things, but one thing they can't do is run on an empty tank.
.
.
When we aren't consuming enough energy to adequately fuel our body to do the things we ask it to do, it will find other ways to make sure it's needs are met. This might look like experiencing hunger cues to try get you to eat, to breaking down other tissues in the body to create energy, and even "turning off" some of the less essential tasks for our bodies to function (such as redirecting energy away from muscle fiber repair and instead towards ensuring your vital organs can continue to function properly).
.
.
While our bodies have these safety nets built in to help keep us alive & functioning during periods of food insecurity or famine, these back-up systems aren't meant to be relied on frequently or indefinitely.
.
.
Even though our bodies can often compensate temporarily, it doesn't mean that they ✨should✨. A lack of consistent & adequate nutrition will likely make us feel fatigued, increase irritability, cause more frequent shifts in mood, decrease our ability to focus, decrease athletic performance and/or physical strength, & increase overall stress on our body & mind (to name a few). And at some point, our bodies will no longer be able to find ways to compensate for the lack of adequate energy.
.
.
We don't expect our cars to run on "empty" yet so often we expect our bodies to do exactly that. 😥 Sometimes we may even feel anger, frustration, or judgment when our body doesn't do what we ask it to do even though we haven't given it the tools it needs (food/energy) to do what we are asking of it.
.
.
Most of us have experienced moments like these, and we invite you to be compassionate & gentle with yourself. 💜 We are all doing the best we can from moment-to-moment, and life isn't lived in perfection. This is just a gentle reminder that your body is deserving of kindness & respect each and every day.
